DBS Studio has found more bugs in their recent Airport GPS product and has released fixes for it “…. DBS Studio release update 1.4.2 for DBS Airport GPS has fixed a problem with starting Airport GPS on some computers under XP/SP3….”. The updates can be found on their product page here.

AirNav Systems is offering their FS Live Traffic as a subscription now. To get the entire world it will set you back some 90 Euros for 6 months. If you don’t want or need all that traffic then you can get the US or Europe separately.

Simflight3D has released his “Spirit of Texas”, a Sea Fury (NX24SF) that was “…… built for racing by Ezell Aviation, but owned and flown by Stewart Dawson who performs aerobatics routines and races at the Reno National Championship Air Races.
It has a Wright 3350-26WD 18-cylinder radial engine (replacing the Bristol Centarus 2,500 hp and five-blade propeller) with 3,100 hp and four-blade propeller at maximum speeds of 450 KTS.  Modifications include a larger spinner, induction scoop and extended rudder….”. Now available at simMarket.

The IRIS Diamond Star DA40 XLS is a reasonable model of this new style type of GA plane ie made from composite materials with radical design features.  It looks good and flies very well and it has its own sounds which are unique to this plane.  In general terms the instruments are good, being specially developed for the Iris DA40 they are clear and functional with a few minor niggles.  The DA40 has a range of over 700nm so it is quite useful for those 4 to 5 hour flights and at a cruise of around 150KIAS, it’s no slouch.  Being equipped with a “glass cockpit” ie the G100 it can be flown for both VFR and IFR flight.  In terms of performance, size and design you would have to compare the DA40 to the Cirrus SR20, the Columbia C400 (much faster) with the choice coming down to personal preference and how fast that you want to get there.  The Interior looks a little flat, I would have expected more detail in the seating but there are 2 interior colours available (as in the real deal).  As I have noted on several previous occasions, it does not have facilities for loading, maintenance or repair during use, and that would have made it a much better plane in my opinion.  This is the first GA plane developed by IRIS FSS and it shows great promise for the future.  In the words of Flying Officer KITE: “Jolly good show” (courtesy of the BBC). Thorsten Reichert sent us this YouTbe video made by Eddy van Geldert, portraying his upcoming Dutch Harbor X scenery. It will be published by Aerosoft. Dutch Harbor is not in Holland, but rather the remote place in Alaska where the crab fishers (‘Deadliest Catch on Discovery Channel) have their base.

Sim Design Group has released their version of  the Sharm El Sheikh – Ophira Airport Scenery (HESH). It features highly detailed Terminal 3, Terminal 2, and Sharm tower modeling, highly detailed ground and runway textures, accurate taxi way signs and more ground details. Flight1 just released their German, boxed version of Ultimate Traffic 2 on simMarket. UT2 adds more than 90 airplane types in 1700 liveries to the default AI traffic of FSX SP2. Available here at simMarket.

APOLLO AirMap, the moving map program from Germany, has received some expansions. Now also available are VFR maps for Spain, the Canary Islands and Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza.  Original Jepessen data are used for the charts and maps. AirMap is available for FS2004, FSX and X-Plane and directly integrated in the Garmin500 GPS. More info here.

The Moscow based Neoqb, designers of Rise of Flight, report they have released Vresion 1.011 of their World  War 1 flightsim. “…… One of the most important things in version 1.011 is the game mode allowing you  to use some game features without being connected to the internet.
